According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the eastbound and westbound Interstate 90 rest areas near Blue Earth are expected to reopen to the public on Wednesday.

The rest areas, located just west of Blue Earth, have been closed since mid-April for replacement of pavement in the parking areas.

More than 20 million travelers stop at Minnesota’s rest areas annually.  To find a rest area in Minnesota, use MnDOT’s websites search tool to learn about services and access at each site:  mndot.gov/restareas.

The Faribault County Recorder’s Office has released the Vital Statistics Report for September of 2024.

According to the report, there were 6 births in the county in September of this year, one more than in 2023.  There were 13 deaths in Faribault County in September, 6 less than last year and 4 Marriage Licenses were issued, compared to 1 in September of 2023.

A two vehicle accident south of Wells early Wednesday morning sent a Willmar woman to the emergency room.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at approximately 6:33am, a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was disabled partially in the lane of traffic on Highway 22 near 150^th Street and a 2020 Freightliner Semi, driven by 50 year old Shannon David Modene, of Wells, was traveling southbound and struck the disabled Cobalt.  The Cobalt then struck a pedestrian, 21 year old Breanna Angel Larson, outside of the vehicle.

Larson was transported to UHD in Blue Earth with non-life threatening injuries.

The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, Wells Police, Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
