I-90 Rest Areas Near Blue Earth to Reopen on Wednesday

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the eastbound and westbound Interstate 90 rest areas near Blue Earth are expected to reopen to the public on Wednesday.

The rest areas, located just west of Blue Earth, have been closed since mid-April for replacement of pavement in the parking areas.

More than 20 million travelers stop at Minnesota’s rest areas annually.  To find a rest area in Minnesota, use MnDOT’s websites search tool to learn about services and access at each site:  mndot.gov/restareas.

USDA Forecasts MN Corn Bushels to be Down This Year, While Soybean & Iowa Corn and Soybeans Higher

Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.40 billion bushels, down 7% from last year, according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Crop Production report.  Based on conditions as of October 1st, yields are expected to average 183.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from the September forecast but down 2.0 bushels per acre from last year.  Corn planted acreage is estimated at 8.20 million acres, with an estimated 7.65 million acres to be harvested for grain.

Iowa corn production is forecast at 2.64 billion bushels, up 5% from the previous year.  Yields are expected to average 214.0 bushels per acre, up 2.0 bushels per acre from last month’s forecast and up 13.0 bushels per acre from last year.  Corn planted acreage is estimated at 12.9 million acres.  An estimated 12.4 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain.

Minnesota soybean production is forecast at 352 million bushels, up 1% from the previous year.  The yield is forecast at 48.0 bushels per acre, down 1.0 bushel per acre from the September forecast but unchanged from 2023.  Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 7.40 million acres with 7.33 million acres to be harvested.

Iowa soybean production is forecast at 638 million bushels, up 11% from the previous year.  The yield is forecast at 64.0 bushels per acre, up 1.0 bushel per acres from last month’s forecast and up 6.0 bushels per acre from 2023.  Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 10.1 million acres with 9.97 million acres to be harvested.

Faribault County Recorder Releases Vital Statistics for September

The Faribault County Recorder’s Office has released the Vital Statistics Report for September of 2024.

According to the report, there were 6 births in the county in September of this year, one more than in 2023.  There were 13 deaths in Faribault County in September, 6 less than last year and 4 Marriage Licenses were issued, compared to 1 in September of 2023.

Willmar Woman Injured in Two Vehicle Accident Near Wells

A two vehicle accident south of Wells early Wednesday morning sent a Willmar woman to the emergency room.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at approximately 6:33am, a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was disabled partially in the lane of traffic on Highway 22 near 150th Street and a 2020 Freightliner Semi, driven by 50 year old Shannon David Modene, of Wells, was traveling southbound and struck the disabled Cobalt.  The Cobalt then struck a pedestrian, 21 year old Breanna Angel Larson, outside of the vehicle.

Larson was transported to UHD in Blue Earth with non-life threatening injuries.

The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, Wells Police, Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
