An elderly Jackson woman missing for nearly two full days was found alive late Saturday afternoon.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says 84 year old Maxine Garber was located in a soybean field just north of Jackson, shortly after 4pm. Deputies say she was alert and talking. Garber was transported by ambulance to Sanford Jackson Medical Center for evaluation and possible treatment.
Garber, who suffers from early onset dementia, reportedly left her Jackson residence on foot at around 8:30pm on Thursday. The Jackson County Pilot says a search party of around 40 people grid searched the city of Jackson Friday afternoon and evening and conducted a precursory search of a swath of ground about three miles east of town and three miles west of town.
On Saturday morning, around 200 people began grid searching the city once again ahead of plans to walk ditches and fields outside of town later in the day.
A passerby reportedly spotted Garber in the field and called the Sheriff’s Office.
