Gov Walz Celebrates Settlement to Cap Insulin Cost ay $35 in MN

Governor Tim Walz released a statement on Wednesday, celebrating the Attorney General’s settlement with Eli Lilly that caps the monthly out of pocket cost of insulin at $35 for all Minnesotans with or without insurance.

“This settlement is welcome news for Minnesotans – no one should be priced out of life saving medicine.  Four years ago, I signed the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act into law to provide relief to Minnesotans struggling to afford their insulin and now we’re holding Big Pharma accountable,” said Gov. Walz.  “I am grateful to the Attorney General for this work to lower costs and make life easier for Minnesotans.”

In April 2020, Governor Walz signed the Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act into law to provide relief to Minnesotans struggling to afford their insulin.  With the price of insulin tripling over the past 10 years, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan worked tirelessly with insulin advocates to call attention to this urgent issue, keep up the pressure and get the bill passed through the legislature.
