Mapleton Firefighters Responded to 2 Fires Over the Weekend

Mapleton firefighters responded to two calls during the weekend involving wood being burned outdoors that spread to structures.

Chief Benjamin Froehlich said the department responded at 1:30pm Saturday, when a homeowner called to report a recreational fire had spread to a nearby woodpile and the rear deck of a house at 105 S.E. Third Avenue in Mapleton.

The homeowner was able to suppress the flames until firefighters arrived; the scene was cleared within minutes.  The deck had minimal damage.

At 3:42am Sunday, a call reported materials caught fire near an outdoor wood burning stove and the flames spread to an adjacent shed and woodpile.

Siding and part of the roof on the shed was opened up so the fire could be extinguished.  The scene was cleared shortly after 6am Sunday.

The Mapleton Fire Department was assisted by the Good Thunder Fire Department in Sunday’s fire.
