Referendum For New School Building in the Martin County West District Fails Tuesday Night

A $63 million bond referendum to build a new school building in Sherburn for all Martin County West students in preschool through 12th Grade failed on Tuesday, with unofficial numbers coming in at 911 “No” votes and 861 “Yes” votes.

A second request for a new auditorium and gym for an additional $9 million also failed with unofficial numbers of 722 “No” votes and 656 “Yes” votes.

The school board will now need to discuss a new plan to get more input from the staff and community members.
