Latest USDA Crop Production Report Expects Corn and Soybean Yields to be Down From Last Year

The latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production report shows Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.47 billion bushels, up slightly from last year.  Based on conditions as of October 1st, yields are expected to average 179.0 bushels per acre, down 1.0 bushel per acre from the September 1st forecast and down 16.0 bushels per acre from last year.  Corn planted acreage is estimated at 8.60 million acres, with an estimated 8.2 million acres to be harvested for grain.

Iowa corn production is forecast at 2.51 billion bushels, up 2% form the previous year, yeields are expected to average 199.0 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel per acre from last month’s forecast and down 1 bushel per acre from last year.  Corn planted acreage is estimated at 13.1 million acres.  An estimated 12.6 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain.

Minnesota soybean production is forecast at 349 million bushels, down 5% from the previous year.  The yield is forecast at 48.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month’s forecast but down 2.0 bushels per acre from 2022.  Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 7.35 million acres, with 7.28 million acres to be harvested.

Iowa soybean production is forecast at 572 million bushels, down 2% from the previous year.  The yield is forecast at 58.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from the September 1st forecast but down 0.5 bushels per acre from last year.  Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 9.95 million acres, with 9.87 million acres to be harvested.
