Algona Man Arrested By MN Authorities Near Sleepy Eye After Shooting and Killing an Algona Police Officer

An Algona man is in custody and charged with 1st Degree Murder after he shot and killed a police officer Wednesday night.

At approximately 8:15pm, Algona Police Officer Kevin Cram went to a residence in the 1100 block of Minnesota Street in Algona to locate a male with misdemeanor warrants.

Upon his arrival, the suspect, identified at 43 year old Kyle Lou Ricke of Algona, retrieved a shotgun from inside the residence and opened fire on Officer Cram, striking him multiple times at close range.  Cram was able to radio he had been shot as the suspect fled.

Cram was airlifted to the nearest trauma hospital, but passed away shortly after arrival.

A Blue Alert was issued, alerting all law enforcement the suspect was on the loose and armed and dangerous.  After a four hour manhunt, the suspect ended up being captured in Minnesota, near Sleepy Eye, after multiple agencies from Minnesota closed in on him.

The 33 year old Cram leaves behind a wife and two young children.
