MN & Iowa Farmers to See Lower Average Bushels Per Acre in Corn and Soybeans According to the USDA

According to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production report, Minnesota and Iowa will average lower bushels per acre in both corn and soybeans than in 2022.

Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.48 billion bushels, up 1 percent from the previous year.  Based on conditions as of September 1st, yields are expected to average 180.0 bushels per acre, down 3.0 bushels from the August 1st forecast and down 15.0 bushels from last year.

Iowa corn production is forecast at 2.52 billion bushels, up 2% from the previous year.  Yields are expected to average 200.0 bushels per acre, down 3.0 bushels per acre from the August 1st but unchanged from last year.

Minnesota soybean production is forecast at 349 million bushels, down 5% from 2022.  The yield is forecast at 48.0 bushels per acre, 1.0 bushel lower than the August forecast and 2.0 bushels lower than 2022.

Iowa soybean production is forecast at 572 million bushels, down 2% from 2022.  The yield is forecast at 58.0 bushels per acre, unchanged from the August forecast, but 0.5 bushel lower than 2022.

Acreage updates were made based on a thorough review of all available data.  The forecasts in this report are based on September 1st conditions and do not reflect weather effects since that time.
