MN & Iowa Corn Production Predicted to Be Higher Than Last Year, Soybeans Lower According to the USDA

According to the latest USDA – National Agricultural Statistics Service Crop Production Report, Minnesota and Iowa corn production is predicted to be more than last year, while soybean production is estimated to be less than last growing season.

Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.46 billion bushels, up slightly from the previous year.  Based on the conditions as of August 1st, yields are expected to average 183.0 bushels per acres, down 12.0 bushels from last year.  Corn planted acreage is estimated at 8.4 million acres.  An estimated 8.0 million acres planted will be harvested for grain.

Corn production in Iowa is forecast at 2.62 billion bushels, up 6 percent from the previous year.  Yields are expected to average 203.0 bushels per acre, up 3.0 bushels from last year.  Corn planted acreage is estimated at 13.4 million acres.  An estimated 12.9 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain.

Minnesota soybean production is forecast at 364 million bushels, down 1% from the previous year.  The yield is forecast at 49.0 bushels per acre, 1.0 bushels lower than 2022.  Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 7.5 million acres, with 7.43 million acres to be harvested.

Soybean production in Iowa is forecast at 558 million bushels, down 5% from the previous year.  The yield is forecast at 58.0 bushels per acre, 0.5 bushels lower than 2022.  Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 9.7 million acres, with 9.62 million acres to be harvested.
