On Monday, the Blue Earth City Council passed a resolution declaring the costs to be assessed from last year’s improvements to Moore Street, 1st Street, Galbraith Street, 4th Street, Gorman Street and 9th Street. The total cost for these projects was just under $4.7 million.
Mayor Rick Scholtes says that the assessment amount that the residents will have to pay back will be added to their property taxes over a period of 15 years at a rate of 5.13%.
Scholtes added that there are also other payment options as well, one is to pay in full before November 1st and the payment will be interest free. There are hardship options and also options for seniors over 65 and on fixed incomes.
Property owners will be receiving their final assessments in the mail and a hearing will be held at 5:05pm on Tuesday, September 5th, in the City Council Chambers, where residents owning property affected by the assessment will have an opportunity to speak.
