Crops in MN and Iowa Continuing to Trend Ahead of Average, According to the USDA

On Monday, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending August 6th.

In Minnesota, corn silking reached 96%, 1 week ahead of last year and 3 days ahead of the 5 year average.  The dough stage reached 56%.  Dent stage was 8%.  Corn condition was rated 43% good to excellent.

Iowa’s corn silking hit 97% for the week and 58% of the corn crop has reached the dough stage or beyond, 3 days ahead of last year and the 5 year average.  Dent stage was 16%, 9 days ahead of last year and 1 week ahead of average.  Corn condition was 59% good to excellent.

Minnesota’s soybeans were 93% blooming, 3 days ahead of last year and 2 days ahead of the 5 year average.  Soybeans reached 71% setting pods.  Soybean condition was 45% good to excellent.

In Iowa, 96% of soybeans were blooming.  Soybeans setting pods reached 75%, 5 days ahead of last year and 3 days ahead of the 5 year average.  Soybean condition was 53% good to excellent.
