Back in June, the city of Winnebago approached the city of Blue Earth for police services for cover Winnebago.
At Monday’s meeting, the Blue Earth City Council went over a draft of a base fee schedule to be presented to Winnebago for the coverage. The estimated fee for 240 hours of coverage per month, by three or four officers, is just under $31,000.
The model would have no impact on Blue Earth’s police coverage, but would dissolve Winnebago’s Police Department. For this model to work, additional Blue Earth Officers would be hired for Winnebago. This would also provide extra staffing for Blue Earth as well.
The council approved the draft on a 5-1 vote and it is now being sent to Winnebago for their consideration.
