USDA Releases Crop Progress Report for MN & Iowa

On Monday the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service release the Crop Progress Report for the week ending July 9th for Minnesota and Iowa.

Lack of precipitation was still a concern across most of Minnesota, where topsoil moisture supplies were rated 54% short to very short.

Corn silking reached 15%, 1 week ahead of last year and 3 days ahead of the 5 year average.  The dough stage began at 1%.  Corn condition was rated 61% good to excellent.

Soybeans were 51% blooming, 10 days ahead of last year and 6 days ahead of the 5 year average.  Soybeans reached 12% setting pods.  Soybean condition was 61% good to excellent.

In Iowa, the USDA says that Western Iowa was the recipient of some much needed precipitation, but half of the state remained dry, as topsoil moisture condition was rated 56% short to very short.

Corn silking hit 22%, 6 days ahead of last year and 2 days ahead of the 5 year average.  Some reports were received of corn starting to dough.  Corn condition remained steady at 61% good to excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 46%, 5 days ahead of last year and 3 days ahead of average.  Soybeans setting pods reached 7%, 4 days ahead of last year and 1 day ahead of normal.  Soybean condition was rated 52% good to excellent.
