After a lengthy back and forth between the City of Blue Earth and the Blue Earth Area School District in discussions surrounding new tennis courts, a trajectory has finally been determined.
The Facilities and Finance Committee reports, shared at the BEA School Board meeting last Monday, included information about the recent tennis court Joint Powers Committee Meeting, stating that the plan to build an eight court tennis facility at the Blue Earth Area High School is now off the table.
The plan had been for an estimated $1.2 million complex to be funded by both the district and the city. However, it stalled when it came to determining how much of the cost each entity would pay for.
The same course of action was discussed at this week’s City Council meeting, with the council voting to move forward on getting estimates and information on tearing out and rebuilding the existing courts at Putnam Park. The City’s plan with Putnam is also to expand its offerings with things such as a basketball court, a skate park and possibly soccer nets. Having the tennis courts redone can be rolled into that expansion.
