USDA Releases County Corn Estimates for MN & Iowa

The USDA has released the County Corn Estimates for Minnesota and Iowa.

According to the USDA, Renville County in Minnesota was the highest ranking county for corn for grain production with 52.9 million bushels produced.

Rounding out the top 5 in the state were Martin – 45.7 million, Redwood – 44.7 million, Mower – 43.5 million and Faribault – 42.8 million bushels produced.

Counties with production over 35 million were Jackson, Freeborn, Blue Earth, Nobles and Cottonwood.

Martin County led all counties with an average yield of 224.9 bushels per acres.  Dodge, Blue Earth, Mower and Steele counties rounded out the top five.  Twenty three counties surpasses the 200 bushel mark in 2022.

In Iowa, the USDA says Kossuth County was the highest ranking county for corn grain production with 57.1 million bushels produced.  Pottawattamie, Crawford, Franklin, Clinton and Benton were the next highest producing counties, each with over 40 million bushels produced.

Delaware led all counties with an average yield of 230.8 bushels per acre.  Clinton, Dubuque, Benton and Cedar Counties rounded out the top five.  Twenty counties exceeded the 215 bushel mark in 2022.

Yields are calculated by dividing a county’s production by its area harvested.  Only published estimates were considered in rankings of counties.
