One Person Dead and One Injured After House Fire in Burt

A house fire Thursday morning in Burt, Iowa has claimed the life of one and seriously injured another.

Around 1:30pm, Kossuth County Law Enforcement received a 911 call of a house fire, reporting it to be fully engulfed in flames.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a man that had escaped the house and was in immediate need of medical attention.  He was transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center and then airlifted to the Iowa City Burn Unit with second degree burns.

The male victim told responders that a woman was still inside the home.  However, withing 15 minutes of the call the roof of the house had collapsed and the home was destroyed.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office was contacted and will assist in the investigation and recovery of the deceased female.  The investigation of the fire is ongoing.
