BEA Superintendent Says Children on Free or Reduced Lunches Will Soon Get to Take Lunches Home on Weekends

During Tuesday’s Blue Earth Area School District update on KBEW, Superintendent Mandy Fletcher said that “Bucs Bag” program is in the process of returning to the schools.

The Bucs Bag program offers children that meet the free or reduced lunch criteria to also receive bag lunches to take home over the weekend to ensure that they receive good meals at home during non-school days.

The program is intended to combat food insecurity within the community and is funded by local donations from private business owners and organizations.  So far, the program is being offered to K-2nd grade students, though with lower enrollment numbers, the program may be extended to 3rd-6th grade students in the future.
