Armstrong Council Member Nick Mart Resigns, Accepts Job as Deputy City Clerk

At a special meeting earlier this week, the Armstrong City Council accepted the resignation of Council member Nick Mart and hired him as Deputy City Clerk.

Mart has been doing clerical work for the city since the resignation of former City Clerk Angie Thompson in July.

The council voted to accept Mart’s resignation with the exception of Arden Kinnander, who said he did not want to lose Mart as a council member.  Another council member Rob Nutt, who is a relative of Mart’s, abstained.

After accepting Mart’s resignation, the council voted to fill his seat by appointment to save the cost of a Special Election.

The council also received an update on the search of a new city clerk from Council member Jo Ann Eaton, who is part of personnel committed along with Rob Nutt.   Easton said they interviewed four people, who were all offered the job, but declined.

Eaton said they have advertised for the position in the area newspapers and on the Iowa League of Cities website.
