Parts of MN and Most of Iowa See Rain Last Week According to USDA

Minnesota had 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending August 28th, according to the USDA. Weekend storms caused some damage in Dakota and Ramsey Counties.

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 4% very short, 18% short, 72% adequate and 6% surplus.

Corn in or beyond the dough stage reached 83%.  Corn dented reached 23%, 6 days behind the 5 year average.  Corn condition was rated 65% good to excellent.

Soybeans setting pods reached 95%.  Soybeans coloring reached 11%, 4 days behind average.  Soybean condition was 66% good to excellent.

In Iowa, rain across most of the state resulted in 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork last week.

Corn in the dough stage or beyond was 92%, 3 days behind last year but 2 days ahead of the 5 year average and 52% of Iowa’s corn crop has reached the dent stage or beyond, 4 days behind last year.  Three percent of the corn crop was mature, 1 week behind last year and 4 days behind the 5 year average.  Corn condition remained 66% good to excellent.

Ninety five percent of Iowa’s soybeans were setting pods, 6 days behind last year but 2 days ahead of average.  Soybeans were coloring at 7%, 5 days behind last year and 3 days behind average.  Soybean condition was rated 63% good to excellent.
