Mapleton Man Sentenced to 5 Years & 5 Months For Drug Possession

A half pound of meth is sending a Mapleton man to prison.

Thirty eight year old Michael Allen Smith was sentenced Tuesday to five years and five months behind bars, with credit for 87 days already served.

Smith pleaded guilty in June to 1st degree drug possession in Blue Earth County.  His home was searched on November 30th, 2021 and agents of the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force and the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department say they found various drugs and firearms, including an AR-15 rifle, and various types of ammunition.

Charges of 1st degree drug sales and possession of a firearm as a violent felon were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
