Children’s Museum in Mankato Announces Land Purchase and Expansion

The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota announced a major land purchase that will expand the museum’s space and outreach and give the museum increased visibility on Riverfront Drive.  The .56 acre lot is adjacent to the museum on the east side and stretches to Sibley Parkway.

Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota CEO Louise Dickmeyer said the addition of the property will allow the museum to “expand the power of play to an outdoor space.”  She added that the new play space will be a one of a kind experience in Minnesota that will authentically redesign the future of outdoor play.

The expansion is expected to be rolled out in three to five years, in phases.  Dickmeyer said the planning will begin Friday.

The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, which celebrates its seventh anniversary on May 1st, has welcomed more than 670,000 people from all over Minnesota and around the globe.
