GoFundMe Set Up for Mn Lake Family Who Had a House Fire and Car Accident in 24 Hours

A Minnesota Lake family has suffered two catastrophic events in 24 hours.

Joe Mazurkiewicz and his sons, Rob and Shaw, were at home on Lake Avenue in Minnesota Lake Saturday when a fire broke out around 11:30pm.

It took 5 hours and 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

The house was severely damaged in the fire and when the water froze, it became unsalvageable. 

No one was injured in the fire, but the Mazukiewicz’s lost all of their belongings and they couldn’t find their 3 cats.

The family stay at a hotel in Mankato on Saturday night and on they headed towards home to look for their cats.

At 1:40pm on Sunday Afternoon, Joe Mazurkiewicz was behind the wheel of their Chevy Uplander, when according to family friend he reportedly had a medical condition.  He lost consciousness while driving.  His son Rob, who was in the passenger seat, unbuckled his seatbelt and tried to grab the steering wheel.

According to the State Patrol, the vehicle drifted across Highway 22 and entered the ditch and rolled.  Joe was airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester with life threatening injuries.

Rob sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Mankato.  He was later airlifted to Rochester.  Shawn was not injured.
