Man Hospitalized Following High Speed Chase

A man is hospitalized after leading authorities on a high speed chase that originated in Southern Minnesota on Wednesday, with the chase ending when the man’s vehicle crashed head on into a semi truck in Brown County.

The sequence of events began when Sheriff’s Deputies in Blue Earth County responded to a report of an assault involving an 83 year old man at a rural Good Thunder residence.

Deputies identified the suspect as Brandon McMurtrey, 34, of Evan, Minnesota.  A search later located McMurtrey in his pickup near a rural intersection near Sleepy Eye, in Brown County.  When Deputies attempted to question McMurtrey, he sped away, leading authorities on a high speed chase which ended when the pickup crashed head on into a semi that had pulled over to yield to emergency vehicles.

McMurtrey had to extricated from his pickup and remains hospitalized with serious injuries, pending charges related to the assault and chase.

Sheriff’s Officials say the assault victim, 83 year old Arnold Lillo, is also hospitalized in stable condition with injuries suffered in the attack.
