BEA School Board Approves Mascot Design Contest

A unique idea designed to better improve the Blue Earth Area School District’s overall marketing efforts was presented for consideration at Monday night’s Blue Earth Area School Board meeting.  Jenn Berkner and Dar Holmseth came before the Board with the Idea of holding a mascot design contest, with the newly designed logo to be uniformly displayed throughout the District.

The mascot design contest runs from November 9th and runs through December 8th.

Mandy Fletcher, Blue Earth Area School Superintendent, gave a general overview of some of the main activities that are being planned district wide in conjunction with “American Education Week” which is being observed November 15th through the 19th.

Superintendent Fletcher also brought the Board up to date on the latest developments involving the COVID-19 pandemic within the Blue Earth Area School District.  She indicated the last several weeks have been very encouraging from a district wide perspective.  As of now, there are only 3 active cases which have been confirmed involving students withing the District, along with one active case involving a current staff member.

The Board also approved an assurance of compliance document, meaning the district is in full compliance with all non-discrimination laws on both the state and federal level.

A memorandum of understanding was also approved by the Board with the Blue Earth Area AFSCME 654 Labor Organization.

The Board approved a new contract for David Kittleson as Talented and Gifted Coordinator for the Blue Earth Area School District.

The Board also approved the hiring of Cora Pierson and Ladonna Dutton as part time temporary Covid Nurses for the District, along with Robyn Johnson and Andrea Schewe as new Paraprofessionals, with Michael Reasor being hired as a new custodian.
