The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office has taken several reports in the recent week of copper theft from various wind farms throughout the county.
The latest report occurred earlier this week from a Wind Farm Energy site near Albert Lea.
The Sheriff’s Office says similar thefts have also been reported in neighboring Mower County, as well as parts of Iowa.
Investigators say scrap copper prices are soaring in Minnesota and beyond, which is a major reason for the upsurge in copper thefts throughout the regional area.
