Suspect Arrested For Allegedly Starting an Early Thursday Fire in a Garage Near the Winnebago City Hall

Fire Departments from Winnebago and Blue Earth were summoned to a garage fire early Thursday Morning behind the Winnebago City Hall Building.

 

According to Winnebago Fire Chief Jesse Haugh, the initial call came in around 4:15am.  The Blue Earth Fire Department was also called in to provide mutual aid for the Winnebago Fire Department.

 

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a two stall storage garage fully engulfed in flames.

 

The garage, which was owned by Scott Robertson, was destroyed by the fire.

 

No injuries were reported.

 

Firefighters remained on the scene until approximately 6am.

 

Local surveillance video was reviewed by the Winnebago Police Department and the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office.  Arson was suspected in the case and at approximately 9:45 Thursday morning, a suspect was arrested.

 

The suspect, 18 year old Connie Bergeron, of Blue Earth, is currently being held at the Faribault County Jail and awaiting arraignment for felony negligent fire.

 

The State Fire Marshall’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
