Kossuth County Man Taken to the Hospital After Being Overcome by the Fumes at an Open Pit Lagoon

Officials in Kossuth County say a man overcome by fumes at an open pit manure lagoon at a hog site on Saturday has died.

 

Thirty three year old Randy Meyer, of Wittemore died Monday morning.

 

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Personnel were summoned to a hog site along Highway 169, west of Irvington around 10:15am Saturday.

 

Upon arrival, the Algona Fire Department used breathing apparatus to remove the subject from the immediate area by the lagoon. Meyer was transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona and later airlifted to Mercy One North Iowa in Mason City, where he later died.
