The Wells Fire Department was called to a report of a house fire late Tuesday Afternoon.
At approximately 3:45pm, fire crews were summoned to a home located on 7th Street SE.
According to Wells Fire Chief Guy Kimpton, the owners of the house were away from home when the fire broke out in the basement of the home.
Some dogs were rescued form the fire, but a couple of cats perished in the blaze.
Firemen remained on the scene for approximately three hours but had to return to the scene for a short time on Wednesday morning after the fire rekindled.
The house was described as a total loss.
