Elmore Man Arrested After Visiting Inmate in the Faribault County Jail

An unlicensed driver, who recently drove to the Faribault County Jail while intoxicated to visit an inmate, is now behind bars as well.

Officials say the 52 year old Elmore man was arrested Monday and charged Wednesday in Faribault County District Court with gross misdemeanor counts of DWI and driving while revoked.

According to the police report, the man went to the Fairbault County Jail Monday evening to visit and inmate.  Someone from the jail, who knew the man had a revoked license, contacted the Blue Earth Police Department.

A Police Officer waited for the man to leave and initiated a traffic stop after the driver got behind the wheel, but was still in the jail parking lot, according to a court complaint.

The man told the officer he did not realize his license was revoked.

The officer then noticed that the man appeared to be in an intoxicated state, at which time the man admitted to consuming alcohol before driving to the jail.

Authorities say the man was then taken back into the jail, where he was given a breathalyzer test, which shed he was over the legal limit of 0.08 when he drove to the jail.
