BEA Votes to Work with the City of Blue Earth on New Tennis Court Project

The Blue Earth Area School District is continuing efforts to work in full cooperation with the City of Blue Earth to provide new tennis courts for student athletes in the community.

At Monday night’s meeting, the Blue Earth Area School Board approved a memorandum of understanding between the two entities that would allow the city to proceed with a feasibility study on school property, with all costs incurred to be shared equally between the school and city.

An initial land survey conducted within the community has revealed there is currently room for the development of eight new tennis courts on property located east of the high school.

Blue Earth Area School Superintendent Mandy Fletcher gave a legislative update, noting that state lawmakers reached a compromise on an education plan that will include the largest spending increase for the state’s public schools in a number of years.

The Board approved several action items for the 2021-22 school year, including the Minnesota School Board Association Membership, activity/meal rates for the District and a bid for Kwik Trip for gasoline and diesel fuel for transportation purposes.

Board members also approved the hiring of Elta Sparks as a new Elementary Teacher, Jennifer Kafka as an ELS/MS Comm Instructor and Gianni Alm as Title 1 Instructor.

New contracts were approved by the board for Al Geiser, as Buildings and Grounds Supervisor; Rob Norman, Activities Director; Leann Sholl, Transportation Director and Dexter Prechel, Bus Mechanic.
