Civil Hearing for the Carlson Event Center, Accused of Violating an Executive Shutdown Order, Set for August

A civil case hearing for a Winnebago business owner accused of violating a pandemic shutdown order has tentatively been set for August.

The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office has filed a lawsuit against the Carlson Event Center over its plans to hold a New Year’s Eve event that never happened.

Owner Garth Carlson later indicated that the event, which was advertised as a “New Year’s Eve Dance,” was a religious gathering, which made it exempt from the executive order.
