Corn and Soybeans in MN and Iowa Looking Mostly Good According to USDA

Minnesota farmers were able to take advantage of 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork last week.

According to the USDA, as of Sunday, 89% of Minnesota’s corn was emerged, the same as last year and 8 days ahead of the 5 year average.  Corn condition was rated 2% poor, 22% fair, 62% good and 14% excellent.

 

Soybeans emerged reached 81%, 8 days ahead of last year and 2 weeks ahead of the 5 year average.  Soybean condition was rated 2% poor, 22% fair, 65% good and 11% excellent.

 

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 4% very short, 20% short, 71% adequate and 5% surplus.

 

In Iowa, the USDA reports 3.4 days suitable for fieldwork last week.

 

According to the USDA, as of Sunday, 87% of Iowa’s corn was emerged, 5 days ahead of the five year average.  Corn condition was rated 81% good to excellent.

 

Soybeans emerged reached 72%, 9 days ahead of the 5 year average.  Soybean condition was 1% poor, 23% fair, 60% good and 16% excellent.

 

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 1% very short, 14% short, 76% adequate and 9% surplus.
