Cool Weather Last Week Allows MN Farmers only 3.8 Days for Fieldwork

Cool weather last week allowed Minnesota Farmers only 3.8 days suitable for fieldwork according to the USDA.

 

Corn was 18% planted, 3 days behind last year, but equal to the five year average.  There were also some reports of soybean planting in southern Minnesota and dry edible bean planting in central Minnesota.

 

Spring wheat was 19% planted, one week ahead of last year and 4 days behind the 5 year average.  Oats were 42% planted, one day ahead of last year and one week ahead of average.

 

Potato planting was 12% complete, 2 days behind both last year and average.  Sugarbeet planting started and was 28% complete statewide.

 

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 4% very short, 21% short, 65% adequate and 10% surplus statewide.
