B.E. Council Approves Bids for Summer Street Projects

Monday night, the Blue Earth City Council approved the lease for the Golden Spike Speedway at the Faribault County Farigrounds.  Promoters have been working on the track the past two weeks and plan to have their season opening race on May 22nd.

 

Council Members also approved the bid for the Tenth and Nicollet Streets, Bartels Drive and Walnut and Hood and 3rd Street Reconstruction Projects.  The bid from Ulland Brothers totaled just over $5.2 million, about 30% above the engineer’s estimate.

 

City Engineer Wes Brown informed the Council that there is a lot of work projects available for construction companies to bid on and some companies have been having problems getting necessary products used in the street and sewer repair projects and the cost for some of those materials have almost doubled from a year ago and that lead to the increase in the cost the project.

 

Council Members also approved the job description and pay scale for a Community Service Officer, the City will be advertising to fill the position and the Council voted to deny an assessment waver on a property located a 215 West Second Street.
