At their work session Monday night, the Blue Earth City Council reviewed different parts of the budget prior to the Truth and Taxation Hearing, which was held as part of the regular council meeting. No one from the public showed up for that meeting.
The Council is expected to approve the 2021 levy at their meeting on December 21st. Mayor Rick Scholtes said the council is hoping to keep the levy increase near 3%.
City Engineer Wes Brown presented the information on the 10th and Nicollet Street Reconstruction Project. The project includes street reconstruction, sidewalk updates, sanitary sewer replacement and watermain pipe improvements. Following a public hearing, the Council approved moving ahead with the $2.1 million project. The city is hoping to approve the bids for the project in April of 2021, with construction to start in June of next year. A portion of Bartels Drive is also included in the project.
The Council also approved the meeting dates for the year 2021 and approved an ordinance regulating urban chickens and honeybees in the city.
