The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors has three to two to begin the process of considering a moratorium on data center development.
During Tuesday’s meeting, supervisors directed the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission to begin preliminary work on a possible temporary ban.
The discussion focused on giving county officials additional time to study the potential impacts of data centers and develop regulations governing future development.
County officials are also working to arrange an informational meeting with potential developers.
The vote does not establish a moratorium but allows the county to begin exploring the possibility while a more comprehensive ordinance is considered.
