The Blue Earth City Council has approved a new point of sale system for the city’s liquor store that will replace outdated equipment and software.
City officials say the current system will no longer be supported and updating the server would have been costly.
The new company will provide the equipment and software without a traditional upfront fee. Instead, it will make money through credit card processing fees.
That means customers will see separate cash and credit prices on products at the liquor store. Officials say the city currently pays roughly $35 to $40 thousand a year in credit card fees.
The new system is expected to save the liquor store $4,500 a month with the transition expected to begin over the next month.
