MN Voters To Decide to Give School District’s More Funding from the State’s Permanent School Fund in November

Minnesota voters will decide a constitutional amendment this November involving the state’s Permanent School Fund.

Blue Earth Area Superintendent Mandy Fletcher says the fund dates back to 1858 and is supported by proceeds from state school trust lands.  The fund has grown to about $2.3 billion.

Fletcher says schools currently receive about $68 per student each year from the fund.  The proposed amendment would change the distribution to $101 per student, beginning in July of 2027.  The proposed change would net Blue Earth Area an additional $33,000-$40,000 per year.

The Secretary of State says the amendment would increase funding for school districts without raising individual income or property taxes.  The question will appear on the November 3^rd ballot.
