At least 42 people were evacuated from New Richland Saturday after torrential rain caused widespread flooding.
City Officials estimate seven to nine inches of rain fell in just a few hours. Thirty six residents were evacuated from the New Richand Care center and taken to NRHEG School, while at least six others were rescued from a mobile home park.
Firefighters also used boats to check homes along Second Street Southeast.
Floodwaters closed portions of Minnesota Highways 13 and 30, while dozens of volunteers helped fill sandbags to protect homes and apartments.
City Administrator Tyler Lendt said Saturday afternoon, the water had not yet peaked. The city is working with Waseca County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross.
