Minnesota added 1,500 jobs in August, while the state continued to outpace the nation in job growth over the past year.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development says the state has added more than 45,000 jobs over the last 12 months, an increase of 1.5%. That compares with national job growth of three tenths of a percent.
Minnesota’s unemployment rate edged up one tenth of a point in August to 4.4%, while the labor force declined by about 2,500 people.
Manufacturing led monthly job gains, adding 2,200 positions. Over the past year, Education and Health Services added the most jobs, with more than 18,000.
DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek called the latest report a mixed picture, with stron annual job growth job but a smaller labor force.
