The Fairmont School Board is considering another building bond referendum, potentially going before voters in February of 2027.
The board discussed the idea for the first time on Tuesday. A $21.7 million bond referendum failed in November 2025. That proposal included a fine arts learning center addition, secure entry and office improvements, locker room renovations and other building and maintenance projects.
The district will need to make some adjustments to the project or the working of the referendum question.
The district is working with ICS to update project costs, including inflation and construction lead times.
The district would need to submit the information to the Minnesota Department of Education by the end of September to stay on track for a possible February vote. Meeting that deadline would not commit the district to holding a referendum.
