A proposed cannabis microbusiness near Wells has been denied by the Faribault County Board of Commissioners.
The operation was proposed about a mile south of Wells, on the east side of the road at the site of Steve Klingbeil’s long running hydroponic tomato operation.
Several neighboring property owners spoke against the proposal. County commissioners raised questions about setbacks, air quality, employee numbers and potential traffic, including why the setbacks would differ from those required for a hog operation.
The conditional use permit was denied on a four to one vote.
The applicants, who are connected to investors from New York, could appeal the decision to the State Board of Appeals. They could also submit a revised proposal, which would likely require another conditional use permit review.
