Farmers now have more time to apply for federal disaster assistance through the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended the deadline for Stages 1 and 2 of the program to September 30th, 2026.
The program provides more than $16 billion in assistance to farmer who suffered qualifying crop, tree, bush or vine losses from natural disasters in 2023 and 2024.
The USDA Farm Service Agency is also giving farmers more flexibility when documenting quality losses. Producers can use verifiable third party records showing grading factors, nutrient tests and quality related discounts.
Additional flexibility is available for crops intended for fresh markets but ultimately sold for processing or crops that could not be sold through a recognized market.
Farmers with quality losses are encouraged to file applications by the September 30th deadline, even if some production data needed to complete a Stage 1 application is still unavailable.
