Farrowing Barn and Pigs Lost in Fire Near Bricelyn on Friday Afternoon

A large hog barn fire near Bricelyn Friday afternoon resulted in the loss of one farrowing barn and 624 pigs.

The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office received the 911 call around 1:44pm after Frost Fire Chief Nick Olson spotted the fire while passing the hog site at 49391 110^th Street.

The fire was contained to the south farrowing bar.  Firefighters from numerous area departments responded, with a county wide water mutual aid response bringing water from multiple communities and locations.

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the north farrowing barn and three additional barns.

One hog site worker was treated for smoke inhalation after entering the north barn during the response.  The worker declined transportation to the hospital and was released to the site manager for monitoring.

The fire remains under investigation by the Frost Fire Department, Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s Office and the USDA.
