Corn development continues to run ahead of normal in both Minnesota and Iowa.
In Minnesota, 93% of the corn crop has reached the silking stage, up from 87% last week and ahead of the five year average of 86%. Nearly half the crop, 46% has reached the dough stage, well ahead of the 28% average, while 5% is now dented.
In Iowa, 93% of corn is silking, up from 87% a week ago and slightly ahead of the five year average of 91% and 48% of the crop is in the dough stage, above the 45% average, while 4% has reached the dent stage.
Corn condition remains strong in both states. In Iowa 80% of the crop is rated good to excellent, with just 4% rated poor to very poor. Minnesota corn is 75% good to excellent, with 6% rated poor to very poor.
Soybean development is also progressing well.
In Minnesota, 93% of soybean are blooming and 75% are setting pods, both ahead of the five year averages. Soybean condition is rated 75% good to excellent.
In Iowa, 88% of soybeans are blooming, matching last year but slightly below the five year average, 61% are setting pods, close to normal and 78% of the crop is rated good to excellent.
