The Blue Earth City Council discussed campaign sign regulations ahead of this fall’s election. During Monday’s meeting members discusses questions about where signs can legally be placed and the rules candidates must follow.
Council members specifically discussed signs placed in boulevards. While some questioned how strictly violations should be handled, officials noted that campaign signs located in public right of way are prohibited under state law.
The discussion was aimed at making sure candidates and residents understand the requirements before campaign signs begin appearing throughout the community.
With the majority of campaign signs up currently being for the Faribault County Sheriff’s race, the Council has instructed City Administrator Dawn Collins to reach out to the candidates to have any signs in violation moved off of boulevards and any public right of way.
The city is also asking all residents to move their signs back on to their property if they are in violation of the campaign sign regulations.
