A Glenville man and his 14 year old passenger were seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday morning, north of Blue Earth.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened just before 11:55am on Highway 169 at 150th Street in Faribault County. Authorities say 42 year old Thaddeus Duane Van Riper was riding a 1999 Honda motorcycle northbound when he left the roadway while trying to avoid a deer. Both Van Riper and 14 year old Briley Marie Van Riper were thrown from the motorcycle.
Van Riper was not wearing a helmet, while the passenger was wearing one. Both suffered life threatening injuries and were airlifted to Mayo Clinic Health System – St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
The State Patrol says the road was dry and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Blue Earth Fire, Blue Earth Ambulance, Winnebago Ambulance, Faribault County Sheriff’s Office and the Blue Earth Police Department assisted at the scene.
