Corn and soybean crops in both Minnesota and Iowa remain in good condition as the growing season advances, according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Crop Progress Report released Monday.
In Minnesota, 28% of the corn crop has reached the silking stage, well ahead of last week’s 4% and above the five year average of 17%. Corn condition also remains strong with 84% of the crop rated good to excellent. Just 3% of the crop was rated poor, with no acreage rated very poor.
In Iowa, 38% of the corn crop has reached the silking stage, ahead of the five year average of 29%. About 1% of the crop has entered the dough stage. Corn condition remains strong with 78% rated good to excellent and only 4% rated poor or very poor.
Minnesota soybean development also continues to outpace normal with 63% of the crop blooming, compared to the five year average of 46%, while 23% has reached the pod setting stage, more than double the typical 11% for this point in the season. Soybean condition remains favorable, with 81% rated good to excellent.
Iowa soybeans are also progressing well, with 56% now blooming and 16% setting pods, both ahead of the state’s five year averages. Soybean condition stands at 74% good to excellent, while just 6% of the crop is rated poor or very poor.
