A new Minnesota Department of Natural Resources report finds many southern Minnesota lakes are falling short when it comes to overall biological health.
In Fairmont, Sisseton Lake received the highest fish community score at 28 out of 100, while Hall scored 20 and both Amber and Budd Lakes scored zero. The DNR says the report measures overall lake health, not fishing quality, by examining fish species and water conditions.
Officials say the data will help local governments target restoration efforts to improve water quality and aquatic habitat.
