Faribault County Commissioners are taking the next step in responding to the proposed 765-kilovolt transmission line project.
The board approved setting aside funding to pursue specialized legal counsel and is working with Martin and Freeborn Counties to share costs and coordinate their response. County Officials say they’re also encouraging other counties along the proposed corridor to join the effort, giving local governments a stronger voice as the project moves forward.
Commissioners say concerns include impacts on farmland, drainage systems, property values, livestock operations and homes. While landowners whose property is used for the transmission line would receive compensation, officials argue it may not fully offset the long term impacts.
A meeting with the three counties and legal counsel is scheduled for July 29th in Faribault County as planning continues.
